How the fence estimate works

The calculator rounds the number of sections up so no section exceeds the spacing you enter. Posts equal sections plus one. Rails equal sections multiplied by the selected rails per section.

Picket count is based on the total run divided by actual picket width plus the installed gap, followed by the editable allowance.

  • Measure the fence line, not the property map scale.
  • Use actual picket width and the intended installed gap.
  • Subtract gate openings and estimate each gate assembly separately.

Corners, gates, and slopes need a layout

A corner, end, gate, or change in elevation may need a different post, footing, or hardware set. Racked and stepped fence layouts also change picket lengths and material waste. Mark every post location before relying on a total count.
